Week 3 Winner of Share Why You Care Contest

Congratulations to our third weekly winner, Mary C. from Spokane, Wash., for her submission “Honoring Dad Caring for Mom.” Mary describes her mother’s many struggles — dementia, visual problems due to macular degeneration, pneumonia and financial challenges as well. Mary wants to provide a quiet, safe home for her 95-year mother, who lived through hardships like the World War II bombings in London. Mary writes that she hopes her father is looking down with pride on his daughter.

Week 2 Winner of Share Why You Care Contest

Our 2nd weekly winner is Angie W. from Columbus, Ohio, who writes: “Alzheimer’s stinks.” Angie describes a decade of dementia for her mom, in and out of hospitals and nursing homes. Angie writes about how her family fought hard to keep her Mom healthy, but in the end, it was a losing battle. Her mother was sent home from the hospital with hospice care, and now Angie is preparing to say goodbye. This comes on the heels of the family losing their father, as well.

Share Your Caregiving Journey and Send in Your Story

Caregiving is incredibly important, but it isn’t always easy. We understand how much you give every day to take care of your loved ones and meet their needs. Now we want to take care of you. Share your story about how you take care of your loved ones, including elders and adults with chronic illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease. You can write up to 300 words and submit for our Share Why You Care contest. Tell us how or why you became a caregiver or talk about what caregiving means to you. Your essay could win a $50 gift card as a weekly winner.
